Donation Creates New Learning Center Jan 29, 2007 A $67,496 donation from Tyler Pipe Community and the McWane Foundation will help The Boys and Girls Club of East Texas (BGCET) establish learning centers in its new headquarters, currently under construction in Tyler, TX. The Tyler Pipe Power Zones will feature computers, educational games, libraries and encyclopedias, said Robbie Slocumb, BGCET executive director. The two centers, one for youth and one for teens, will provide homework assistance and educational enrichment projects. "[The learning centers] will be raising our expectations for the kids and our members will be improving their opportunities," says Slocumb. The new headquarters is set to open in the spring and is initially expected to serve about 300 children and teens daily.
