Clow Canada Helps Local Soup Kitchen
Jan 31, 2013

On January 15-18, the Clow Canada sales team gathered in Saint John, N.B. for their annual sales meeting.  National Sales Manager Rick Benoit surprised the team Monday afternoon by announcing that they would be participating in an off-site teambuilding activity by volunteering their time at the Romero House Soup Kitchen.

The Romero House Soup Kitchen has been in operation for 30 years and has served over 1.6 million meals to the less fortunate in the Saint John area. They also provide mobile street food service to those in need in the winter months as well as clothing and household goods. Romero House relies completely on donations and volunteers to operate.

When the sales team arrived at the soup kitchen, lunch had already been served so the group spent the afternoon completing various tasks that the lady volunteers and staff have difficulty completing. "We all put our muscles to use.  We washed all of the walls and scrubbed the entire kitchen.  We also moved heavy stock around and loaded shelves. It was inspiring to watch the group so eager to work hard for the ladies at the soup kitchen. We were able to have a great teambuilding exercise and give back to the community at the same time. I have never seen our group so happy and fired up after an activity," said Rick Benoit. The team was so inspired that they decided instead of having the sales group dinner that evening, they would rather donate $1,000 to the soup kitchen.

Word travelled fast about what the sales team had done, and the hourly and salaried staff at the plant let it be known that they would like to be involved in this worthwhile project, so plans are now in place for the hourly and salaried teams to continue to work with the soup kitchen.
