Clow Valve Celebrates VPP Star Award
Sep 9, 2009

On Friday, August 28, 2009, the OSHA VPP (Voluntary Protection Program) Star flag was raised at Clow Valve's Metal Casting Facility, a signal to all in the community that Clow Valve's safety program is one of the best in the nation!  The flag raising celebration was preceded by a ceremony and lunch attended by the Clow Valve Team, representatives from Iowa's Department of Labor, and a state Senator, during which Team members were recognized and praised for their significant accomplishment.  To receive this prestigious award, in addition to having superior written safety programs, significant Team involvement, and top-notch management commitment, the facility was required to show their injury rates are below the national average.  OSHA confirmed that the site demonstrated all the criteria of Star status following a week long review earlier this summer.

While recognizing this achievement, General Manager Jim Wakefield challenged the employees to continue to reach further when he indicated "Where we are today is not a destination.  It's a spot on the journey.  We won't stop here.  The idea is to continue to improve."

Other McWane facilities which have achieved OSHA VPP status include Manchester Tank  Elkhart Facility (VPP Star), Tyler Coupling Marshfield (VPP Merit), Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company (VPP Merit), and Clow Valve Machine Shop (VPP Merit).
