The Pacific States Team
                     
On October 21, 2009, Pacific States employees celebrated a significant health and safety achievement as they were presented the OSHA VPP (Voluntary Protection Program) Merit status flag.  The celebration included commentary from John Balian, General Manager, Scott Jarvis, Plant Manager, Barb Wisniewski, VP Health & Safety, and several individuals from both the community as well as Utah OSHA.  Jeff Willman, Group Safety Director, served as Master of Ceremonies.

The VPP designation is OSHA's top recognition for worksites that demonstrate exemplary safety and health programs and who have developed superior employee involvement and management commitment.  This cooperative effort between the employees and management was actually demonstrated multiple times during the day - from the group who assembled all the tables and chairs for the luncheon to those employees who volunteered to cook the steaks which were provided for lunch. 

Immediately following the program, all employees gathered around the newly installed flag pole as the VPP committee raised the new flag signifying to the community that Pacific States takes safety seriously.  In fact, Pacific States was recognized as the first ductile iron pipe company in the nation to receive this prestigious award! 

Other McWane facilities which have achieved OSHA VPP status include Manchester Tank Elkhart (VPP Star), Tyler Coupling Marshfield (VPP Merit), Clow Valve Metal Casting Facility (VPP Star), and Clow Valve Machine Shop (VPP Merit).
