Clow Valve Joins the Christmas Parade
Jan 15, 2010

Every year Clow Valve takes great pride in participating in the annual lighted Christmas parade in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  Sixteen years ago, the Clow Team thought it might be fun to have a float in the form of a train.   The train consisted of five cars, including the engine and a loose caboose.  It was such a success that they have continued the tradition.

Over the years they have added additional cars, refurnished old cars and even remodeled the train.  In the 2009 parade, the train consisted of nine cars that stretched 120 feet long.  In recent years, the team at Clow Valve has purchased stuffed animals to decorate the train.  After the parade, the stuffed animals are donated to community emergency response agencies such as the police, fire department and hospital.  In 2009, the toys were donated to the Oskaloosa Ambulance Service who will use these toys to give to traumatized children riding in the ambulance.  The toys help comfort the children and that allows the paramedics to concentrate on the sick or injured, which are often the parent or sibling of the child.

Along with a handful of dedicated volunteers, Robert Bateson, NC Production Supervisor, has been the mainstay keeping all the lights working and the paint fresh.  The Clow Train has become part of the Oskaloosa culture, appearing in city brochures and even afghan blankets which have been skillfully manufactured and sold by the Oskaloosa Chamber and Development Group.
