McWane VPP Update
Apr 20, 2010

As McWane, Inc. continues to emphasize safety and health, we are actively participating in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). The program allows management, labor, and OSHA to establish cooperative relationships with workplaces that have implemented comprehensive safety and health management systems.
Approval into VPP is OSHA's official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health programs. "The VPP designation indicates a true commitment from management and Team Members in working together, with everyone taking personal responsibility for safety and health," said Barbara Wisniewski, Assistant Vice President of Health and Safety, McWane. Inc. Team Members at six McWane facilities have achieved VPP status.
Clow Water Systems received the eagerly awaited announcement in February 2010 that they had been recognized as a Merit Site. Clow Water team member Kent Arnold remarked, "Thanks again to everyone for making it possible for our employees to go home everyday just the way they came to work!" Clow Water joins five other McWane facilities that have been recognized as VPP sites.
In 2009, Clow Valve Foundry was recognized as a Star Site and celebrated with a flag presentation and raising ceremony on August 28. While recognizing this achievement, Clow Valve General Manager Jim Wakefield challenged the Clow Valve Team to continue to reach further when he indicated "Where we are today is not a destination. It's a spot on the journey. We won't stop here. The idea is to continue to improve."

The Clow Valve Machine Shop joined the other McWane facilities who have achieved the pretigious VPP status when they were also recommended by Iowa OSHA in 2009 for VPP Merit Status. They celebrated this achievement with a flag raising ceremony on October 9, 2009

Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company was also recognized in 2009 as a Merit Site and celebrated with a flag presentation and raising ceremony on October 21, 2009.

In 2008, Manchester Tank Elkhart was recognized as a Star Site and celebrated with a flag presentation and raising ceremony on October 24. Also in 2008, Tyler Coupling was approved as a Merit Site and the first VPP site in a Federal OSHA state and celebrated with a flag presentation and raising ceremony on November 13.
McWane remains committed to having one of the best safety programs in the nation with a goal to have all McWane facilities achieve VPP status.
