The emissions-control system at Atlantic States Cast Iron Pipe Company was featured in an article entitled "Out of View" that appeared in the September 2008 Foundry Management & Technology Magazine. Atlantic States achieved emissions-control compliance three years ahead of schedule with the new system and they are reducing mercury emissions to unprecedented levels.
Attempting to capture mercury emissions from a cupola while achieving MACT (Maximum Achievable Control Technology) compliance had never been attempted before in North America. By installing this system, Atlantic States saw this as an opportunity to be an industry leader. "We hope to help teach others and communicate our successes to those who follow behind us," said Mitchell Kidd, General Manager of Atlantic States.
