Manchester Tank Elkhart ESP Program
Apr 29, 2009

We are proud to announce that the Manchester Tank facility located in Elkhart, Indiana just completed its first year of membership in the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP)!

The ESP is a voluntary, performance based leadership program designed to recognize and reward Indiana's regulated organizations for going above and beyond the current environmental regulations.  During the 2008 ESP reporting year, the Elkhart facility set a lofty goal to recycle 90% of its waste.  Manchester Tank Elkhart's Environmental Manager Steve Jacobson reported, "When the dust settled on 2008, we were able to reuse or recycle 89% of our waste materials.  During this reporting period, the amount of "stuff" sent to the landfill was reduced from 351,000 pounds to 149,000 pounds!  These accomplishments were made possible by a large number of employees that committed to reusing or recycling our welding flux, shot dust, wood, powder paint, bottles and cans, shrink wrap, cardboard and a number of smaller wastes."

In addition to the recycling goal data, Elkhart's performance with regulatory compliance, internal environmental audits, Environmental Management System evaluations and community outreach were reported to the State of Indiana.
