McWane, Inc. believes that employee training and development is an investment in the future success of our company. Providing our employees with opportunities to advance their knowledge results in increased value for our customers, employees and to the communities where our products are used.

Internal Training

McWane University is a comprehensive training program that began as an outlet for discussing the fundamental changes that have taken place within the organization over recent years. Central to the course is the discussion of the McWane Way, a core set of values based on the company’s heritage that includes integrity, competence, respect, and fairness.

Starting in 2005, approximately 1,047 employees from McWane facilities in the U.S. and Canada took part in McWane University’s “Casting Leadership Excellence” (CLE). CLE is a professional development course designed to equip all of McWane’s existing management personnel, at every level, with the knowledge, methods, practices and skills to be truly effective leaders, enhance their potential for growth within the Company, and mold the Company’s culture.

In 2007, McWane Pipe was the test site for the pilot session of McWane’s Clear Management Training program. The training is based on six fundamental skills we believe every manager must have to be effective. Topics covered included communications, conflict resolution, performance management, mentoring/coaching and highly effective teams. Approximately eighty (80) of McWane Pipe’s supervisors, from the General Manager to the newest supervisor, participated in the training. Following the training, McWane Pipe has sustained the tenets of the program by continuing regular internal management training relating to issues encountered specifically at McWane Pipe. The follow-up training is conducted by the VP/GM Tom Crawford, Plant Manager Robert Bussey and Human Resources Manager Bonita Flippo.
